Westminster Confession of Faith Chapter 7 Article 6
How can we know God's will for our life?
The sermon explores the nature of the covenant of grace, clarifying that both the Old and New Testaments operate under this single covenant, differing only in their understanding and exhibition of Christ. It emphasizes that while the Old Testament lacked explicit knowledge of Jesus, faith in God's promise of a Messiah was accepted as righteousness, and the New Testament reveals Christ as the substance of that covenant. The sermon highlights the shift from symbolic sacrifices and rituals, such as circumcision and animal offerings, to the simpler sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper, which more fully and effectively convey the cleansing power of Christ's sacrifice, underscoring the ongoing relevance of God's word and the importance of seeking His will through diligent study and prayer.
